Mule Day

I knew it was going to be a beautiful weekend and I really didn't want to spend it in the apartment, so I told JD we were gonna do something FUN! We caught wind that Mule Day was going on in Columbia and decided we were going! I had heard about it before from a few people who made it a yearly tradition, but I just thought it sounded pretty red. But, we were down for some fun and rumor had it there was even a mule there named "Amazing Grace" who has a whole boatload of tricks she does, including dunking a basketball, checking the mail, and pawing out how old she is when you ask her.

"Amazing Grace" in all her artistic glory!

We loaded up the car and headed down 840 at about 10:00. After an hour in the car, we were finally there. Lots of cars, people, and MULES!

We kept running tabs on how many signs had misspelled words, overalls were sported, and airbrushed t-shirts were being worn. Needless to say, we lost count. HA!

As soon as we got there, I saw some strange signs!

HambergEr, anyone?

What's a coggins test? I ABSOLUTLY want to know!

There were lots of fun little boutique booths there and I got a super cute camera case! Monogrammed!

LOVE IT!

JD actually pointed this one out. He's such a cat dad!

Then JD and I decided to be really red and get temporary tattoos. He chose a dragon and the inner Britney in me came out so I got the lips on my wrist.

Of course we weren't there 20 minutes before JD was moaning and groaning about needing and corn dog. YUM! Fair food!

The official Mule Day 2010 t-shirt was sponsored by TTU Alumni, so of course I had to get one! "Mules Building a Strong America" - classic!!

While JD chowed down on his corndog we sat seperately for a caricature. I love these! I haven't had one drawn of me in like 5 years. I don't think they ever look like you, but they are fun! My brother has one with his name spelled as "Brain" on it instead of "Brian". I was hoping for something that hysterical, but no luck.

It really looks nothing like us, but I think JD's looks more like him than mine does.

We mosied on over to the Mule Pull. I think this went on ALL day long. We stayed for about an hour (mostly because the weather was so nice, not because we were that interested) and watched pairs of mules pulling cinder blocks 10 feet at a time. I know what you're thinking right now, you are jealous and upset that you weren't there. :)

Good thing they invited the local inmates to come put the extra weight on the sled.

After about 3 hours there, corn dogs, tattoos, fresh squeezed lemonade, mules galore, and sunburnt skin, we were just done.

We came home a bit earlier than planned, napped, and went to TGI Friday's with JD's dad for dinner.

This weekend we are planning on hitting up the Mile Long Yard Sale!! Bargains, bargains, bargains!!!

  1. So jealous! I love festivals! And a mule one....it doesnt get better than that! Have you ever been to a Bell Buckle craft fair? I already have the moon-pie festival on my list of things to do. If I had seen the cheeseberg sign, I would have peed myself!
