Adventures With Abby

Like I said in the previous post, I'll be watching Abby on Mondays. I am looking forward to it. It will give me at least one day a week of being productive! Also, it will give me a reason to blog, since she's adorable and needs to have as many pictures taken as possible!

We started this new routine yesterday. Here are some pictures from our day:

When Abby got here she was in a great mood. JD and I distracted her while Stuart tried to sneak out, but she saw his head bopping down the stairs and got a little upset. Now, I've worked with all different ages of children before and I know that toddlers can be super hard to console when they see their parents leaving. It's all about object permanence. Even when something is out of sight, it still exists. Anyway, Abby became a little upset so I whipped out my wallet. No, not to bribe her with money to not cry! But as I've learned quickly from her, she is an organizing queen! I gave her that to play with and she was fine in literally 30 seconds.

Then she wanted to sit up at the bar. At first I wasn't sure where to sit her for lunch, but she liked it here and she could reach the counter so it worked for us. I just stood right beside her the whole time and held onto the chair.

After a while of playing inside, she kept walking to the balcony door and pointing. I think she was just wanting to go out, possibly for a walk, possibly just to explore, so we sat out there like two golden girls for a bit. She really liked it.

She took about an hour nap. At first I tried to lay her down for a nap about 11, but Scarlet kept walking into the room and Abby was too interested in her and kept talking to her. So I brought her back out and we played some more until about noon when she was basically falling over. When I asked her if she was ready to lay down she walked back in the room and pointed to lay down. I wish I got a picture of her sleeping. She had her head in one corner with her legs tucked up under her and her butt in the air. Too funny!

After a nice nap, we had lunch and went to the pool. I bought her a baby pool at Wally World last week. But I wasn't sure if she'd like it or not. Verdict: LOVED it!

It's really cute and I like that it's partially shaded. Yes, I slathered her in sunscreen. Once when I was changing her into her suit all over her whole body and then again about 5 more times when we were outside. These two women at the pool were like, "I hope you put sunscreen on her." Nah, I just thought I'd let her lobster up and let you deal with the aftermath. I mean, I know I look young. But I don't look that young OR dumb!

She liked to just sit in it and splash and kick. It comes with these 3 butterflies that detatch from the sides and she was having none of those. If JD or I put them in there, she'd promptly toss them out.

JD and I filled it up and then realized we needed to move it back much further away from the big pool. Once we did that, her favorite thing to do was climb in and out of it. It made me nervous at first, I just knew she'd go head first in, but after a while of helping her she figured out the best way to get in and out without nearly putting her face in the water. The water was like bath water warm by the time we left and she was more interested in the big pool, so she and I took a dip. Here's the only picture JD got of us.

She did not want me holding on to her in the pool. She liked it most if I held her belly down in the water. I kept watching her put her mouth on the water. It was funny, but it made me nervous. After a while of her wiggle worming I had to get out with her. She's like baby Phelps! She would have taken off by herself!

I asked her if she was ready to go home and she said "Yeah!!" and took off for the pool gates. We loaded up our stuff and came in to get changed and go for a walk, but Stuart came as soon as we got out of our suits.

It was a really fun day. I'm glad JD got to be here with us. I'm really surprised at how easy she is. Anything I asked her, she would answer yes or no. She was happy the whole time. She went for her nap like a charm. The one thing that cracked me up was that she does not like to be barefoot. Even at the pool, she wouldn't get in with me unless her flip flops were on. It was so funny!

I'll be back next Monday with more Adventures with Abby. I'll see if Stu will leave the car seat next week and we'll go on more fun day trips!
