It was truly such a fun week while teaching the children about Dr. Seuss and reading the books and doing all kinds of fun activities.
Each day we dedicated to different books and themes. We read The Foot Book and I had them take off their shoes, I mixed them up on the carpet and had them race to see which tables could get them on, TIED, and get back to their seats first. They loved this.
EVERYTHING is a competition in Kindergarten.
We then put their shoes on the tables(I know, gross, but anything in the name of education!) and we made Patteruns (ask a 5 year old to say "pattern", it's whatcha get). They actually made some really nice patteruns.
ABAB, AABB, it was great!
One day we had Officer Jeff dress up as The Cat in the Hat and read to us. This was HILARIOUS!!
I got brave and decided to make Green Eggs and Ham. This was my first attempt. They loved them, ate it all, wanted more. Me, not-so-much. Just, no.
I let them each help crack the eggs. It was a nice little science lesson. Then we added in the food coloring. Here is the set-up.
The final product. YUMMY! :)
I bought some bubble wrap at Wally World and cut it into small squares for each of them to have one. We read Hop on Pop(my old time fave) and each time they heard a set of rhyming words they hopped on the pops. Get it? They loved it. It really helped reinforce rhyming words, too.
We also watched Horton Hears a Who, painted our faces, and did LOADS of other crafts. All in all it was a great week. A wonderful man to celebrate and a fantastic way to learn! I look forward to doing this again next year and adding in even more ideas and activities!
You are a blogging queen! Just so you know, you had me concerned with the Anna Kendrick comment not being in Twilight. I looked it up - she was in that movie. She was Bella's friend Jessica. Hands down the worse (and that is pretty hard) actress in the movie. We will see about Up in the Air...
